  • Food Donation
The idea to start collecting donations of food for less fortunate Cape families started when Carol Marsh repeatedly encountered children in the elementary schools who had come to school hungry or without lunch. Many days she donated her own lunch to those children. Barbara Weber and Sam Gardiner volunteered to spearhead the project and get information for us from the local school nurses. We began with two elementatry schools and in 2013 expanded our donations to three: Eastham Elementary, Eddy Elementary (in Brewster) and Orleans Elementary.

Hungry children on the Cape is apparently a bigger problem than any of us would suspect. It was decided to concentrate our efforts solely on the local schools as they have no other means of support.  Following is a list of suggested donations the schools would like to receive if you care to participate in this program:

Please make sure that donations exclude peanuts/peanut butter.  Only unopened packages with contents listed can be used in the school.
    • (pre-packaged in single servings when available )
Kraft Cheese & cracker snack packs
      Quaker Chewy Granola Bars
      Goldfish Crackers
      Low Fat Cheese Sticks
      Chex Mix Snack Packs
Dole Fruit Cups (favorites: mandarin orange,
      pineapple & applesauce)
      Honey Wheat Pretzels
      Gatorade Juice Boxes

Donations can be brought to our monthly meetings and will be distributed to the elementary schools in Eastham and Orleans.

  • Puppets and Pillows Project
Hand puppets continue to provide much needed comfort to the children in the ER and Radiology at Cape Cod Hospital, as well as at the Tomlinson Center, and Fontaine and Hyannis urgent care centers. The workshops to make these items take place at the home of  Dianne Greaney  on two or more Thursdays each month. We work from 1 to 3 o’clock, but whatever time you have to give is fine. Linda Bohlen and Dianne Greaney have designed 18 adorable fleece puppets.  To date we have made and donated over 1600 puppets .  The puppets are sold to members, friends and at the Holly Berry Bazaar and other events for $10.00, with all proceeds going toward our current pledge.

    See examples.
